Description
Phil Poseyesva, a self-taught Hopi silversmith from the Second Mesa Village of Mishongnovi, mastered the traditional Hopi overlay technique at a young age. His work is distinguished by clean, abstract designs incorporating high-quality stones like natural turquoise, lapis lazuli, and coral. Rather than using stencils, he draws his designs directly onto silver or gold, cutting them by hand and finishing each piece with a textured, oxidized background for contrast. A member of the Bear Clan, Phil signs his jewelry with a stylized bear paw or a double “P,” ensuring each piece reflects both tradition and innovation.
